My job was to take the existing design from other Tosh.0 elements and apply them to the show open. The distortion you see within this open is 100% certified authentic. We got the compression effect by by taking a pristine quicktime out of After Effects, encoding it into an .avi, removing a few keyframes using some old freeware .avi video editor and then, finally re-exporting the whole mess back to quicktime. Sometimes there was hardly any difference, other times the result was a complete mush of compression rectangles. The final spot is the result of a solid amount of trial and error.
